Peer-Led Initiatives


Emory has many peer-led Recognized Student Organizations that provide volunteer opportunities for students who are passionate about promoting and improving mental health and well-being on campus. These organizations are advised by professional staff.  

Helpline

The Emory Helpline is a confidential, peer support telephone line that serves the Emory community, providing help for students with non-urgent mental health needs. It is accessed by calling404-727-4357 (HELP)and is typically open nightly during the fall and spring semesters.   

The Helpline is closed during the summer and for all major student holidays. For more information about the Helpline including current hours of operation, visit  the Hub  or theirInstagram account (@emory_helpline).  

FAQs

Applying to become a member of the Helpline is a 3-step process that includes the following: (a) completing a written application; (b) if invited, attending an in-person interview; and (c) if invited, attending a 12-week training, which consists of 3.5 hours of training, 1 afternoon a week.

Applications for the Helpline are typically available in the fall semester. If you are interested in applying, please email the Helpline advisor, and provide the best email address at which you can be reached. will ensure that the application is emailed to you once it is available.

Training for the Helpline only occurs during the spring semester.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the training, students who will be studying abroad or who have a regular schedule conflict--even if the conflict is only for a portion of the training time every week--are not eligible for the Helpline.

No. Unfortunately, since potential new Helpline volunteers do not officially receive invitations to join the Helpline until the end of the spring training, current seniors are not eligible to apply.

Active Minds

Active Mindsis a national organization that aims to change the conversation about mental health on college campuses. Student-run chapters of Active Minds focus on increasing awareness of mental health issues, providing information and resources regarding mental health, encouraging students to seek help, and serving as liaisons between students and the mental health community. Black Mental Health Ambassadors
