Consultation, advice, and guidance can be provided to students, staff, faculty, or family members who are concerned about a student. Consultations may include information on how to refer a student to Counseling & Psychological Services, how to identify a struggling student, how to support a student of concern, and/or information about other helpful services available on or off campus. To consult with a clinician, call 404-727-7450 and ask to speak with the on-call clinician, the Assistant Director for Clinical Case Management, or the Associate Director for Clinical Services.
Consulation FAQs
No. Confidential information about a particular student’s contact with our office cannot be shared without written authorization from the student.
Not exactly. We routinely offer private consultation. However, it is important to note that clinicians have a responsibility to their clients first and cannot agree to keep third party consultations about a specific student confidential if that student is a Counseling & Psychological Services client or in circumstances where a person’s imminent safety is at risk. In the interest of safety, as well as the need to maintain a trusting, therapeutic relationship, we will generally share third party concerns with clients.
No. However, the Student Intervention Services (SIS) Team, which is managed through Student Case Management and Intervention Services, can reach out to students of concern, invite them in for a conversation, and refer them to appropriate resources. They are a great next step if you would like someone to reach out to a student-of-concern. You can call them directly at 404-430-1120 or submit an online referral.
